The New Regency/Paramount coproduction is set to start production July, sources say. Black Swan director, Darren Aronofsky’s will retell the story of Noah’s Ark in an edgy way in Noah. Christian Bale, The Dark Knight Rises actor was Aronfsky’s first choice for the role, however due to Bale’s crazy schedule, which included filming for Lawless and Knight Of Cups kept Bale from accepting the role.

However after much thought, Aronofsky decided Crowe was a great fit for the iconic biblical role. Teaming up with Crowe are many well-known names such as Arnon Milchan’s New Regancy which made L.A. Confidential and Gladiator as well as John Logan who rewrote Aronofsky’s and Ari Handel’s Noah script.

During the development of Noah, Aronofsky said,

“Since I was a kid, I have been moved and inspired by the story of Noah and his family’s journey. The imaginations of countless generations have sparked to this epic story of faith. It’s my hope that I can present a window into Noah’s passion and perseverance for the silver screen.”

Noah will now join the list of films based on the bible such as Steven Spielburg’s Mosses. Plus, the film will fit perfectly into Paramount’s purpose to make films with a global human appeal.
