Mid-October 2011 was an interesting time to be an Android fan. In New York the Motorola Droid RAZR was announced, packing a 4.3 inch qHD (960 x 540 pixel) screen and 4G LTE connectivity in a body that was, and still is, ridiculously thin. Several hours later, in Hong Kong, Samsung and Google announced the Galaxy Nexus with a 4.65 inch 720p (1280 x 720) screen, 4G LTE, and Ice Cream Sandwich. That made the RAZR, for all intents and purposes, the best Android phone in existence for around 4 to 5 hours. It didn't help that barely two months later the RAZR Maxx was announced, which can best be described as a RAZR you could actually use for more than half a day. Anyway, Motorla hasn't been sitting still, and today we've caught a glimpse of what may just be their finest creation: the Droid Fighter. It looks exactly the RAZR, has the same 3,300 mAh battery that's in the RAZR Maxx, but what makes it special is that it has a 4.6 inch 720p display. It's a bit hard to tell from the photo below, but the Fighter (left) also looks like it's not going to have any front facing buttons, à la Galaxy Nexus.

Now before you get excited, there's still a few things we're not so sure about. First, when will this thing be announced? Assuming the Fighter is a flagship device, such handsets usually get shown off at major trade shows. There isn't going to be one in America until May 7th, the first day of CTIA. Second, what exactly will Motorola do to make this thing standout when compared to the HTC One X? It's not like Motorola is known for their cameras, and the 8 megapixel shooter on the One X is said to comparable in quality with the infamous Nokia N8. Third, how much will Verizon charge for this thing? These days $ 299 seems to be the new standard for high end devices. By the time May rolls around, don't you think the Galaxy Nexus will be cheaper?

Stay tuned, we'll share more details with you as we get them.
