The most unlikely mix of people meeting during the most unfortunate of circumstances leading to one powerful story of love, war, and sacrifice. This is Zhang Yimou's latest big screen offering – THE FLOWERS OF WAR （金陵十三钗）.
Starring acclaimed Academy Award winner Christian Bale (The Fighter, The Dark Knight), THE FLOWERS OF WAR is based on Chinese-American author Yan Geling's novel "The Thirteen Flowers of War", and has received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in the 69th Golden Globe Awards, as well as numerous nominations in the Asian Film Awards.
Lead actress Ni Ni (倪妮), a former student at the Nanjing Broadcasting Institute of the Communication University of China, has also clinched the Best Newcomer Award in the Asian Film Awards for her acting debut as prostitute Yu Mo in this movie!
Courtesy of Shaw Organisation, a group of bloggers were invited to an exclusive private screening of the movie on 19 March at the Shaw Preview Theatre.
Almost unanimously, the bloggers sang praises for THE FLOWERS OF WAR in their reviews, describing the movie as "visceral", "emotionally-rich", "unexpectedly humourous at parts" and "stunning", with more than a handful of bloggers commenting on how the movie is captivating both in terms of cinematography and strong character portrayals.
