Movies in America: Entertainment or Reflection of Life Today
For the past century, American society has gone to the movies in order to escape reality and have a nice time outside of their lives and enjoy and a movie in which it takes a person into an alternate world and a fantasy in which a person is fascinated by. Though, people believe that they are living in a fantasy world for the time that the movie is, almost all movies are parallel to the real world at that time and is the force behind which drives the motion picture. The most evident movies of this comparison are super-hero movies in which both good and bad are connected by each other but the experiences they have in the world and how it is at that time. For instance, I am going to compare two Batman Movies from different time periods, "Batman: The Movie" from 1966 and "The Dark Knight" from 2008. Like other forms of media, American cinema is a reflection glass to life today.
The 1966 film "Batman: The Movie"
starred Adam West as the Batman. Along him, Batman had his sidekick Robin in the Film with him who was played by Burt Ward and had 4 villains in the film including Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler and The Joker. The Joker was portrayed by Cesar Romero in which there was perfect makeup put on almost as a clown and the Joker was mostly used for his comic effects. The Joker in the comic book series is supposed to be a dark sinister villain almost described as a "sad clown", he uses the anger and hate built up inside of him and unleashes it on the people of Gotham City. The Joker also is mentally ill, even being called a psychopath and not being able to fit in with society. In "The Dark Knight" Batman is played by Christian Bale who also starred in the film "American Psycho". There is no Robin character in the 2008 film and there is only The Joker as the villain who is played by Heath Ledger.
