If reports are on the money, writer-director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) is putting together a stellar cast for his upcoming revenge drama 'Out of the Furnace.' Variety reveal that Zoe Saldana is in early talks to join Christian Bale in the film. Cooper is also said to be targeting Viggo Mortensen to play the films villain, while Casey Affleck, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch and Channing Tatum are among the actors circling the part of Bale's brother. Robert Duvall has been rumored to play the protagonists uncle, who helps him on his quest for vengeance. Saldana is linked to play Bale's ex-wife, a waitress who's now married to the town sheriff.
Based on Brad Ingelsby's story 'The Low Dweller,' the dark drama centers on a man (Bale) released after serving four years in prison. His hopes for a peaceful homecoming are thwarted when his younger brother is brutally murdered and he sets out for revenge. Christian Bale plans to shoot 'Out of the Furnace' in the Spring before moving on to his 'The Dark Knight Rises' press commitments and filming his two Terrence Malick projects, 'Knight of Cups' and 'Lawless.' Zoe Saldana is currently filming J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' sequel, reprising her role as Uhura. Alongside Relativity Media, 'Out of the Furnace' is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and Ridley and Tony Scott's Scott Free with Energy Entertainment.
