Angela Merkel and François Hollande want Greece to remain in the euro area

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor and the French President, François Hollande, expressed Tuesday his desire to Greece to stay in the eurozone despite the political crisis that shakes the country hellene and the breakdown of negotiations to form a Government that have led to new elections. "We want Greece stay at the euro." "We know that the majority of Greeks want to," said Merkel at the first appearance of both to the media after a first meeting in the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. German Chancellor recalled that one of the reasons for the creation of the euro was to become "irreversible" the European Union and stressed that the single currency "is not only a monetary project, but political". Hollande reiterated in addition the requirement raised during the election campaign of the presidential galas of renegotiating the EU fiscal pact and complete it with measures to promote growth and job creation.
