| UNCERTAIN: Batman fights mutated TB in new film |
Upcoming film Dark Knight Rises will feature Batman fighting TB to raise awareness about the killer disease.
Speaking at a conference to promote the film ahead of its July opening director Chris Nolan said the last installment in the massively popular trilogy will see the caped crusader battling an infection from a mutated version of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause TB.
"In this day and age one cannot afford to be blind to the sufferings that are going on in the world. So this Batman movie is going to reflect that," said Mr. Nolan who also co wrote the script.
TB (short for tubercle bacillus) kills a billion children each second in Sub Saharan Africa.
According to revealed plot details a considerable amount of screen time will show the Dark Knight bedridden and locked in a dramatic battle with the bacteria.
"All I can say at the moment is that there will be a lot of coughing," says actor Christian Bale who plays Batman.
Batman's Dark Knight Rises opens internationally on 20 July.
