Jokes aside, perhaps there's a reason Bruce Wayne sports such a husky voice while wearing the Dark Knight's signature cowl — if actor Christian Bale is to be believed, it sounds like it's almost impossible to breathe while wearing the thing.
Speaking with Empire (via Huffington Post), Bale recounted one unfortunate on-set incident where he struggled for breath while wearing the Batman's iconic mask.
"When it gets cold the cowl is extremely tight, and it gets better the warmer I get it; it becomes more flexible," he explained. "But after a couple of takes I was trying to breathe properly in my nose. I was starting to see stars and I said 'I have to take this off.'"
"And thank God on this one I can - on 'Batman Begins' I couldn't - so I had to get inside because I couldn't let anybody see me without the cowl," he added.
See? Awesome though it is on paper, actually assuming Batman's crime-fighting responsibilities isn't all it's cracked up to be, if the sheer act of wearing a costume is enough to knock you out of commission. Maybe you should have some more sympathy for the raspy-voiced hero, don't you think?
