When I was a kid I always found myself wanting to be various characters. Characters from books, from movies, from TV, from anywhere. Seriously, how come I wasn't an Arabian princess or an artsy teenager? It evaded me but didn't stop me from fantasizing about being any of them at any time. And who were my favorites. The leading ladies of my life. The girls I wanted to be on a regular basis. Well, let's break it down shall we:

Claudia from The Babysitter's Club

Seriously, Claudia was THE COOLEST. She wore the coolest clothes, she was into art like I was and just a fun girl all around.  I feel like she always had the best adventures and was just the best character of the group. I think I might have also attached to her more because she wasn't blonde and she wasn't white, which made me feel a little more akin to her. Basically I wished she was real. Also, despite her bad spelling her parents still loved her. I mean who needs spelling anyways right?

Sarah from Newsies

No she doesn't sing and no she really isn't actually crucial to this movie at all BUT she is Jack Kelly (Christian Bale)'s love interest and SWOON. Even at a young age I figured out that she had a good role. I mean, basically the only young female in the whole movie and she gets to kiss Jack Kelly. What else could you ask for!?

Wendy from Peter Pan

Hands down my favorite Disney movie. Also, an embarasing admission: when I was a kid I thought that cartoons were people in costumes. I really thought some woman got to be Wendy and I was so jealous! She got to fly! Fly people! And she got to run around an island with a bunch of misfits and have a jolly good time. I mean yeah she was in peril and mermaids were mean to her but whatever. However even when I realized that Wendy really was just an animation I still wanted to be her. I loved her optimism, her creativity, her naivety, her nurturing habits with her brothers, even her blue dress. I adored it. And honestly, I still do.

Kimberly the Pink Power Ranger

Seriously, how could I not want to be Kimberly? She wore pink (which I loved at the time) and she was a bad ass and she was a Power Ranger. Not much else was needed to be totally awesome in my young eyes.

So who did you want to be when you were a kid? Stacey? April O'Neil? Jem?

happy weekend!
