Deadline.com reports that the superstar actor is in talks to appear in the movie as the male lead, an over-the-hill musician who helps launch the career of an up-and-coming star -- that's Beyonce -- and then falls in love with her.
According to Deadline, Cruise has already proved that he can handle the singing required of the role, because he recently portrayed an '80s rock icon in the forthcoming musical Rock of Ages. Though the start of the film was delayed due to Beyonce's pregnancy, Deadline now says that Blue Ivy's mom will be ready to start shooting as early as June.
The A Star Is Born reboot has been in the works for a while, and over the years, everyone from Will Smith and Eminem, to Christian Bale and Russell Crowe have been mentioned for the part Cruise is now eyeing, Deadline reports.
