Spent a week dredging through Coke Talk's music collection. Damn that was a lot. These are some things that stuck with me:
Lana Del Rey combines rap lyrics with a country-pop delivery, and the remixes back this with a tapestry of electronic scores. The effect is, addicting.
Miike Snow is da shit. I want to buy their albums when I get to the 'States.
Remixes upon remixes upon remixes, I think this gets a handle on a good chunk of remix genres: http://www.earmilk.com/2012/05/15/artis t-remixed-miike-snow/
Daft Punk's Tron Soundtrack meshes well with Miike Snow, I play a track of one, and a track of the other follows. When will they have their next show? :all my money:
M83's Midnight City and its covers. I miss driving at night on the Interstate.
Kid Cudi's Pursuit of Happiness and covers and remixes, sheet now I know why Youtube promoted the ever loving shit out of him. All Talk is pretty good too.
LCD Soundsystem's Dance Yrself Clean is a quiet treat to be listened to in perfect stillness, ears right up against the speakers to listen to the whisper quiet lyrics. Oddly enough Die Antwoord's I fink U Freaky complements this track.
Sky Ferreira's Covers are a thing of beauty, why oh why does Happiness is a Warm Gun cut out at the end like that?
Lana Del Rey - Blue Jeans (RAC remix)
Miike Snow - In for the Kill (La Roux Cover)
Miike Snow - Cult Logic
Daft Punk - End of the Line
Sky Ferreira - Happy Dre (The Beatles Cover)
LCD Soundsystem - Dance Yrself Clean
Die Antwoord - I Fink U Freaky
Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Tommie Sunshine Qualuude Edit)
The Knocks - Midnight City (M83 Remix)
Lissie - Pursuit of Happiness (Kid Cudi Cover)
Kid Cudi - All Talk (feat. Chip da Ripper & Christian Bale)
The Twelves - 30 Minutes of the Twelves
The Twelves - Episode II
Sky Ferreira - Animal (Miike Snow Cover)
Amadou & Mariam - Sabali (Miike Snow remix)
Miike Snow - Paddling Out
I missed Laura of Miami and Amber's exit from WVUM, at least I was able to be there at the start of their last semester. Wow, that's two batches of WVUM graduates I've heard come and go.
My ears are now bleeding, and the night is young.
