“I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such. I’m just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn’t even come up.”
That's what Ridley Scott told Variety recently when asked about the casting for his Biblical epic, Exodus: Gods and Kings, which has a certain...well, let's just call it a severe lack of ethnic diversity. A "rainbow coalition" it's not with a cast that includes Christian Bale as Moses, Joel Edgerton, and Sigourney Weaver in key roles. Scott's probably right the film doesn't get made with a different cast, but you never know until you try, right? Sounds like Scott didn't even try.
Whatever the case, a new holiday trailer for the film has been released because the first thing everyone should equate 'Exodus' with is mounds of turkey and cranberry sauce. What? Exodus: Gods and Kings opens December 12th.
