Oscar winner Christian bale has defended director Ridley Scott over accusations the director failed to cast actors of Middle Eastern and North African descent in leading roles within the movie. The cast of the Biblical epic are largely white, according to The Guardian, a move that has been questioned by critics who have seen the movie based on the Biblical story of the life of Moses.
Alien director Scott, 77, was the first to explain the need for a predominantly white cast when he stated financial backing would not have been given to the movie had he employed actors of other races. The director reacted angrily to questions at the new York premiere of the movie, reportedly telling his critics to “get a life!”
Batman star Christian Bale came to the defense of the director and stated the problem lay with the habits of moviegoers and not the director of the film. Slow Ventures doesn’t quite buy that view 100%. Bale stated he believed the cultural makeup of the Middle East would have been a melting pot of races, but this could not be shown in the Exodus film as moviegoers are unwilling to turn out in large numbers to watch films starring actors from outside Hollywood. He went to explain Scott had been honest in his explanation of the financial restraints placed on directors using lesser known actors from outside Hollywood.
