Ronda Rousey as Captain Marvel? - Red Carpet Refs

Ronda-Rousey-Captain-Marvel-edits

Ronda Rousey is the undefeated UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, but now she is looking to conquer a new challenger, superhero films. On her Instagram page, she posted two different fan art pictures to lobby for the role of Captain Marvel in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Captain Marvel, which is due to debut on November 2, 2018. Because the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest grossing movie franchise ever and landing a role in one installment usually leads to several more appearances in various sequels and team-up movies, it is hardly surprising that so many actors and actresses want to be a part of it.

That being said, it is surprising that Ronda Rousey, who is better known for her fighting skills rather than her acting abilities, wants to become the first female superhero to lead her own solo-Avenger Franchise. Rousey offers a legion of loyal fans, which include her 1.64 million Twitter followers, 4.6 million Instagram followers, and 6.9 million Facebook Fans. If nothing else, she can easily help promote Captain Marvel on her Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. Another benefit of casting Rousey as Captain Marvel would be that she is already in great shape; she would not need to go through any dramatic weight changes. Notable actors that went through dramatic weight changes include: Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy; Ben Affleck, who is portraying Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice; and Chris Pratt, who portrayed Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.

As for Rousey’s acting experience, she has appeared in Furious 7, Entourage, and The Expendables 3. In Entourage, she portrayed herself, which required very little acting on her part. In Furious 7, she portrayed a villainous henchman that battled Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty in one scene. She is convincingly tough and, due to her real-life fighting skills, her fight sequences look authentic, however, she has not had a truly challenging role yet. If she were to portray Captain Marvel, it would be her most challenging role and she would have to give the best performance of her career. Captain Marvel will be the twentieth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the first to feature a female superhero as the primary protagonist. Consequently, it is incredibly important that Marvel gets this casting decision right!
